York County Truancy Summit
September 21, 2010, 4pm to 7pm
York County School of Technology, 2179 S. Queen St, York, PA
FREE OF CHARGE!
The York County Truancy Prevention Initiative and its stakeholders and partners invite you to an evening focusing on the problem of truancy in this County and offer you the opportunity to help shape the solutions. Students will meet with dropouts and discuss lessons learned. Parents, Teachers, School Administrators, Judges, Businesses, Service Providers, Agencies, Non-profits, and Community Members will have the opportunity to develop one countywide truancy definition, discuss current truancy laws, the concerns around data collection, workforce development and kindergarten and first grade attendance policies. Dinner will be provided during which Summit attendees will listen to the voices of experience, from those who have dropped out and can tell us where things went wrong. Taking these lessons, all Summit attendees will break into groups, discussing solutions. Adult participants will have the choice of brainstorming alternatives to fines or examining ways we can reduce the gaps and barriers to partnerships and increase the productivity of the numerous agencies and non-profits who service York County’s families. The York County Truancy Prevention Initiative is a York County Bar Foundation program, in partnership with York County Communities That Care and the United Way of York County.
The purpose of this Summit is to elicit feedback from all York County stakeholders to be incorporated into an Action Plan for reducing and preventing truancy in York County.
